Last minute gift idea, January Slub Club KAL, and a Holiday break...
We have a great last minute gift idea… A Learn to Knit Kit
People are finding themselves in front of computers more than ever due to remote learning, zoom meetings and online holiday shopping! Knitting can be a great break from screens and offers many health benefits including stress relief. Due to safety restrictions, we have been unable to offer as many lessons as we normally do, but we have come up with an idea to help you or a loved one learn at home. Stop by the shop and we will help you choose everything you need to gift this healthy hobby to someone on your holiday list. You’ll get yarn, needles and instructions for creating a beautiful scarf. Want to make it even more special? Package it all up in one of our African drawstring project bags or woven baskets ;)
January KAL - Slub Club!
You may have seen us dropping some hints about the new SWASH SLUB yarn we have from our favorite local dyer, Kate Howland of Graphic Dyeworks. You guys, this is such a FUN yarn! We love to mix and match it with other yarns for unique textured effects. It’s a fingering weight 90% super wash merino, 10% nylon blend with a generous yardage of 438 yds per skein. It can be used in almost any pattern when held with one or more other yarns. We can help you decide on what to pair it with to get the proper gauge. The following photos show it mixed with other yarns to create weights from worsted to super bulky.
The Pull the Wool Over hat below was made holding the Swash Slub with a worsted and some fuzzy mohair-ish lace weight. Don’t you love the effect? We do!
Here, we’ve held the Swash Slub with a strand of Baseline Sock from Graphic Dyework to create a textured brioche effect with the Sweetfern Hat.
Henny is modeling Arya’s Water Dancer Cowl that can also be worn as a hood! She held the Swash Slub with a strand of sock yarn to get the proper gauge. You’ll find a link to this free pattern and many others in the pattern suggestions at the end of the newsletter ;)
We chose a selection of colorways to compliment the Graphic Dyeworks Legendary Collection that we have in stock on the Baseline Sock base as well!. Wait until you see these rich colors!
We are so excited about this new yarn, we designed our January KAL around it. Who wants to join the SLUB CLUB? Here’s the details…
January Slub Club KAL - Instead of choosing one single project to work on together, in January YOU get to choose any pattern that delights you as long as you incorporate the Swash Slub yarn. The possibilities are endless and we thought it would be fun to see how many different ways the Swash Slub can be worked into your projects. On Monday nights in January we will connect on zoom for a little show and tell session - you can join us if you want! Because we are taking a break over the holidays, the first Slub Club KAL zoom knit night will take place the second week of the New Year on January 11 at 7:00 p.m.
Choose any pattern you want! We offer some suggestions below to get you going!
